Mark’s mother had to go through many trials and struggles in order to create a better future for her son. After hours of waiting outside the offices and the delays, Mark’s mother finally had a smile on her face. Without this one small piece of paper, the future of Mark Mathabane would had not been the same. Mark’s mother had gone through pains to obtain this piece of paper and finally she did, through the help of a white
woman passing by. Mark would not have had received the great knowledge from attending school. He wouldn't have had success in playing tennis, getting a job in the bank, nor going to America. With this birth certificate, Mark Mathabane wouldn't have been able to speak English, survive in the white world, help out his friends, and make friends with the whites. Education is necessary to Mark's life as it had greatly directed his path to a good future and opportunity to travel to the land of his dreams.
